Tips For Hiring A Band For Your Wedding Reception

Every couple wants a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception, and live music can play a big role in that happening. Many brides and grooms want to have musicians play the music during the ceremony and a wedding band to entertain their guests at the reception, but they are not sure how to hire one. If you want to hire a wedding band, use the following tips:

Begin Looking Early

Finding the perfect wedding band can be difficult, so it is in your best interest to begin your search early in the wedding planning process. Most people either find a band through recommendations from others, by seeing a band play live, or by working with an entertainment agency that represents different bands that are available to be hired for weddings. No matter which avenue you choose, make sure you have the opportunity to listen to a variety of music that the band regularly plays.

Establish a Budget

The prices wedding bands charge can vary greatly, so you need to establish a strict budget so you know exactly how much you can afford to spend. In order to ensure that you don't run out of funds for your ceremony and reception, make sure that your wedding band budget is listed separately from other wedding expenses. This will help you determine which bands are within your budget and which ones cost too much.

Consider Band Size

Some wedding bands are just a couple of people, while others are much larger. The wedding band that you choose to hire should be able to fit comfortably inside your wedding reception venue without taking up too much space or encroaching on the areas where your guests will be. It is also important to consider what instruments are needed; for example, don't hire a wedding band that uses a piano for the majority of their songs if there is not a piano available at your wedding venue.

Plan Breaks in Advance

Since most wedding receptions are several hours long, you will need to plan on the wedding band needing a few short breaks. If you hire a wedding band with several members, they may be able to rotate breaks without negatively affecting the quality of the music. If your band only has a couple of members, plan to schedule their breaks during dinner, speeches, or the cutting of the cake. The length and number of breaks for the wedding band should all be clearly included in the contract.
