Music Is My Therapy

Are You Planning A Patriotic Parade?

Watching televised parades on Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Day or even for the Fourth of July might have inspired your group to have a patriotic parade for an upcoming holiday, perhaps Labor Day or Thanksgiving Day. It may be that your home owner's association or your club has decided to sponsor a parade in your community. From getting help from a marching band arranger to enlisting people who own vintage cars to be part of the parade, here are some ideas that might help you to plan a memorable patriotic parade.

Music And Marching - What could be more thrilling or more invigorating than the music and marching that one witnesses at a parade? Could you get your local high school to be part of the parade? If so, the director of the school band will have the training and the experience to plan the right music and to create the best arrangement for your patriotic themed parade. If the school band is unable to participate, perhaps some of the kids in the band could organize a marching band that will consist of kids in your area that want to participate.

From little kids to older kids, the kids from the school band will more than likely be able to do simple choreography that those who participate can follow easily. Are there people in your community who can play band instruments? If so, think of enlisting their help, too. After all, the performance doesn't have to be on a professional level, as people are just there to have fun and to honor the United States of America. Music and marching will do just that!

Extra Participants - The more, the merrier, right? Consider putting out the word that anybody who has a vintage car would be welcome to drive it in your patriotic parade. Also, little kids on tricycles, skates, skateboards, or bikes could be part of the parade. Dogs on leashes would add some humor to the parade, especially if they're all decked out in red, white, and blue bandanas.

Think about asking your local police and fire departments to participate, too. Anybody who can juggle, people who will dress up like Yankee Doodle, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, George Washington, or any other patriots would just add to the parade. Of course, if parade participants would toss wrapped candies to the spectators in the crowds, that would be the frosting-on-the-cake.
