Music Is My Therapy

Your Kids Need Musical Instruments At Home

If you are a parent who is trying to help your child develop and learn, you may want to invest in getting a few musical instruments in your home. Instruments are a great way to teach your children many different things, including but not limited to the following.

Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills are the common everyday actions that your child will make with their body. For example, standing, sitting, and using their arms are essential for normal function. When you let a child experiment with musical instruments such as pounding on drums, strumming a guitar, or shaking maracas, they learn to use their muscles in a way that can be easily translated to other movements. For example, strumming guitar strings uses the same motion as wiping the crumbs off of a counter. Every child needs the gross motor skills that can be learned from instruments.

Fine Motor Skills

Fine motor skills are more delicate than gross skills. These skills usually include the fingers or coordination between the fingers and eyes. Many instruments help children to learn fine motor skills. The piano, for example, is played by individual fingers touching individual keys. Learning to use your fingers like that, in connection with the notes that your eyes are reading is an incredible practice for other delicate projects your fingers will be needed for. Buttoning a coat uses the fine motor skills that can be learned from practicing the piano. One of the most common and needed fine motor skills is using a pencil for writing.

Coordination

Figuring out how to coordinate your right and left hands is no easy feat. In addition to making your hands work together to do something, a more advanced form of coordination is when your hands are doing two different things that come together. Many instruments allow you to practice this skill, such as playing the piano, the guitar, or any orchestral instruments. This can be extremely helpful for future tasks.

Listening

Learning to listen is another essential skill that can be learned from playing musical instruments. In order to know that what you are playing is correct, you must listen to how it sounds. Learning to listen is necessary for following directions, developing healthy relationships, and doing well in school.

In conclusion, even having just a few musical instruments in the home can help your kids to learn and grow. You can find instruments in local or online musical instrument stores
